Some of our indicators include energy consumption (both direct and indirect) and carbon emissions intensity. We have a big focus on going circular, so for reducing waste generation per unit and water usage per unit was also a good way for us to measure our impact. Of course in an economic fashion cost savings were a vital KPI and thinking about people we wanted to see customer satisfaction increase too.

For our bakery stakeholder engagement seemed like a mammoth task. However, when we realised that we could use some of our waste products to incentivize our stakeholders, it was a doddle! We used some of our leftover cookie dough and gave away sweet treats to those who filled in the survey. We got a lot of respondents! It was very valuable to hear the diverse perspectives from suppliers and customers alike and incorporate feedback into the second draft of our sustainability policy.

    For our bakery, effective
planning and implementation required strong commitment from the leadership and active engagement from employees and
stakeholders. It was a team effort to reach our clear goals and objectives, and we made sure everyone had a role and responsibility involved. Incentivising staff was crucial for early shifts etc and as for one off changes, we made sure we knew where we were tracking from before we tracked. For example, when we started using an electric bike for local deliveries we knew that we would have to first create a baseline for all our local dieasel van deliveries to work our the emissions saved over a year. It was important for us to develop detailed action plans for each quarter with defined
timelines, milestones, and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with broader
    business strategies and priorities

We are a bakery that serves our local community and caters for winder events and other partners. For us, we didn’t feel a full corporate sustainability report was absolutely necessary, yet we still wanted to communicate to our stakeholders the great work we’ve been doing for people and the planet transparently and authenticly. For us social media and engaging storytelling at our premises was key to this, we created a short video leaning on the skills of one of our exisiting employees and visual graphics in a framed poster for the shop. Simple and to the point was the way we brought our sustainability initiatives and progress to life to resonate with our diverse audiences.
