The Toolbox and The Association of National Olympic Committees unite

to deliver on United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) commitments

Seoul, 20 October 2022 – The Toolbox is joining forces with The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) to provide a suite of resources – The Sustainability Toolbox – to all National Olympic Committees building on their commitment to align with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Toolbox will be presented at the ANOC General Assembly in Seoul on October 20, 2022.

All 206 National Olympic Committees will have full access to the eight-step framework in English, French and Spanish, which takes an organization on the pathway to implementing a sustainability program.

The Toolbox was founded by the Newport, Rhode Island based 11th Hour Racing Team, to provide a suite of standardized resources to enable organizations from any sector to create and implement a sustainability program aligned with recognized standards. The Toolbox is available for free through a Creative Commons license, and has a growing community of over 300 organizations from a wide range of sectors.

Damian Foxall, Sustainability Manager at 11th Hour Racing Team commented, “We are pleased to welcome the Association of National Olympic Committees to The Toolbox community, so that we can help integrate sustainable practices throughout the sporting world, growing our network globally. We especially appreciate their contribution to translating The Toolbox into a third language – Spanish – enabling us to reach and make a difference in many more communities,” he concluded.

“ANOC is very happy to partner with The Toolbox to provide NOCs with access to best-in-class resources and information on how to develop their own sustainability strategies. As a key player in the Olympic Movement, the NOCs must take their share of the responsibility to promote positive change, both regarding the protection of our planet but also within human relations. ANOCwill continue to assist the NOCs by sharing best-practice, but also by providing the tools which will facilitate and support NOCs deliver on their sustainability initiatives.”

Mrs Gunilla Lindberg, General Secretary

The Association of National Olympic Committees has signed the UNFCCC Sport for Climate Action Declaration. This commits all signatories to deliver on the five principles of the declaration:

  • To undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility
  • To reduce overall climate impact
  • To educate for climate action
  • To promote sustainable and responsible consumption
  • To advocate for climate action through communication.

The Toolbox will present a series of practical webinars to support ANOC’s members and their network to deliver against the commitments of the Sports for Climate Action framework.
